Microsoft has officially announced that it will end support for password management in the Microsoft Authenticator app starting August 1, 2025. This move is part of Microsoft’s strategy to streamline its password management and autofill features across its ecosystem.
July 2025: The autofill feature in Authenticator will stop working.
August 2025: Passwords will no longer be accessible in the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Microsoft has already disabled the ability to add or import new passwords in the app as of last month. However, saving passwords via autofill will still work until July 2025.
Saved passwords and autofill data will be moved to your Microsoft account. Users can access them through the Microsoft Edge browser by setting it as their default autofill provider.
Microsoft confirmed:
“After August 2025, your saved passwords will no longer be accessible in Authenticator and any generated passwords not saved will be deleted.”
No.
Passkeys will continue to work.
If you’ve enabled passkeys for your Microsoft account, Microsoft Authenticator must remain active as the passkey provider. Disabling Authenticator will also disable passkey functionality.
Export your saved passwords from Authenticator as soon as possible.
Consider moving your passwords to Microsoft Edge, Google Password Manager, or Apple iCloud Keychain.
Set your preferred autofill provider on your mobile device.
You can switch to:
Microsoft Edge Password Manager
Google Password Manager
Apple iCloud Keychain
Other third-party password managers like LastPass, Bitwarden, or 1Password.
